Pokemon’s next legendary is a franchise first

The Pokémon series just named its 721st member: Volcanion, the newest legendary creature. You can take a look at it in the debut trailer above.

Volcanion was first unveiled in the latest issue of CoroCoro Magazine, which confirmed that it will make its debut in next year’s Pokémon X Y & Z movie.

The franchise’s first-ever dual fire-and-water-type will be the last Pokémon to launch for this generation of games. When and how you can get this Pokémon into your collection hasn’t yet been announced, but you’ll be able to import it into any of the following games: Pokémon X/Pokémon Y and Pokémon Omega Ruby/Pokémon Alpha Sapphire.

Fans have been aware of the legendary’s existence after data mining of Pokémon X and Y exposed three hidden characters. One of those, Hoopa, finally made its debut stateside just after Thanksgiving — you can grab the Pokemon for yourself from participating McDonald’s now until Dec. 23.

Correction: Volcanion is only the 721st monster added to the Pokédex.
